Current research pertains to genetic research, categorization and description, not layman observations or inaccurate historical or registry terminology. Therefore, an Overo pattern must be consistent with a genetically accurate overo pattern and not a wild imaginative pattern. Furthermore, this clause also means the pattern must be stated as Overo and not erroneously as Tobin or other general terms such as pinto. For entries accurately portraying an unusual mutation or rare color, the artist is advised to provide documentation to the judge. o Appropriateness of stated color to stated breed requires that the color and breed is consistent to registry standards or historic fact, as well as genetic possibility. For example, tobiano Arabians and buckskin Friesians will be penalized. However, for entries accurately portraying an unusual mutation or rare color, the artist is advised to provide documentation to the judge. The concept of historic is embraced since many historic colors are bred out of or severely penalized in current populations. However, historic colors are not to be disfavored in the evaluation process. To support this process, this category will be scored with either a yes (2 pts) or a no (0 points). o Effectiveness of shading addresses the skill of shade and highlight exhibited on the piece. o Luster and quality of color pertains to the vibrancy, depth, tonal variations and glow of the piece, all within a realistic context. o Skill in the technical aspects of the medium an techniques involved will evaluate the application of the finish work, including but not limited to the smoothness of the surface, consistency in application etc. o Believability requires a convincing depiction of equine experience; all aspects should be historically and naturally accurate. Therefore, no unrealistic or fantasy figures regardless of technical precision. o Compatibility of elements requires all aspects of the work be consistently in quality, design and accuracy, fostering well roundedness. o Composition and design addresses art and design theory during the creation of a skillful, finessed and clever piece. |
