All decisions made by Show Staff are final!
Please do not crowd the judges during classes- leave them some breathing room around the tables! However, you are encouraged to ask the judges about their placings after classes so you can learn!
* Prizes: Ribbons for models through 6th place. Champions and reserves will receive special ribbons. Special awards will be announced.
* Divisions: 1. Original Finish Plastic- models that are as sold from the factory, and made of acetate or some other plastic. 2. OF Chinas--models that are as sold from the manufacturer, part of a "run" of like models, and made of porcelain or china. OF Resin--models that are as sold from the manufacturer, part of a "run" of like models, and made of resin. (For all OF divisions, repairs and touch-ups are OK, but modifications or any changes to the paint job must compete as Minor CM.) For the purposes of this show, ALL AA resins, regardless of who painted them, will show in AR. Breyer resins will show in OF Resin, as will BHR resins and Northlight resins. The new Equine Collection models will show in OF Resin. 3. Custom Made: Includes all factory OF repaints and/or have minor modifications. For example: hair added, change to a limb or body part (i.e. head turned, leg moved), or minor resculpting to correct flaws or enhance facial features - final eligibility for Minor CM is up to the judges. The general rule is if you can easily recognize the original mold, it remains in CM, if not, it goes in AR. 4. Major Customs/Artist Resins: Includes all Artist Resins regardless of who painted them and what modifications have been made to the original body, Major Custom includes all other customized models. This division will also include factory produced Animal Artistry resins, regardless of who painted them- factory or artist. Please check with Judge if unsure which division a model belongs in. 5. Custom China: Any china model that has been custom glazed or modified in any way. Cold painted chinas compete in the CM division.
Regarding Models such as Maureen Love's "runs", the models will be considered OF if they are actually part of a groups of models all manufactured and finished the same. If they were produced as a "run", but actually finished to a customer's specifications, they will be considered CM.
* Classes: Classes will adhere to the posted classlist as much as is possible. We will not split OFP classes further than they already are by make or gender. For very large classes, the judge has the option to "string" the models- that is, indicate by string, coin, candy or other means which horses are to remain in the ring for further judging, while all others will be removed. Decisions made by the judges are final. For classes with less than eight entries in ANY division, the judge has the option to combine the class with another class of appropriate similarity. For all China classes, the classlist may be split further if the number of entries warrants it. Again, judge's decisions are final.
* Class limits: OF and CM China division: no limit. All other NAMHSA halter classes EXCEPT BREYER- limit 4 models per entrant per class. BREYER classes, Limit 6- to account for the double judging, both collectibility and breed together.Performance classes- 2 entries per entrant per class. Collectors/theme classes have separate limitations, see class descriptions.
* Class entries: Models may compete in ONE breed class. Mixed breeds should enter the Part Bred class that best fits the horse's type.(list breeds on card). Please use your best judgment as to which division your mixed breed horse should show in, keeping in mind that your horse will be judged based on standards applied to the type you choose- ie a Quarab shown in the stock division would be expected to be of a more bulky, muscled stock type, while a Quarab shown in the Arab division would be expected to be more refined and exhibiting more Arab characteristics. Consult with showholder if unsure. Please ask before the show for any clarifications on which class a mixed breed should enter. Halters are optional, but if used should be correct for breed shown. For the Stablemate and Little Bit divisions, only models that are in scale up to 1:18 may enter the Mini division, regardless of actual size!. You may choose to show your minis in with the traditionals, but may not switch back and forth between traditional and mini division classes.
*For the Mini classes, "Mini" shall be defined as those models falling into the scale range of Micro-minis, 1:32 (commonly known as the Stablemate scale) and up to 1:18 scale(commonly known as the Paddock Pals and Pebbles scale). Foals and ponies must be in scale. NO classic scale models will be allowed in the Mini division, regardless of size.
* Order of classes/divisions: On Saturday, we will begin with OF Plastic halter, OF China, CM Glazed Workmanship, with Simple Custom/Artist Resin performance about a half hour later. On Sunday, we will begin with Simple Custom and Artist Resin halter, and OF performance about a half hour later. We hope to be done at a reasonable hour each day and will make efforts to keep things moving along!
For the OF Plastic Halter division, Breyer will be double judged. One judge will be evaluating for breed- that is, correct Anatomy, Biomechanics and Conformation (ABC's) and color and condition, while the other will be evaluating collectibility- that is, rarity, condiition and desirability. The two judges will be working concurrently- that is, they will each be evaluating the same class at the same time for their respective criteria. They will each place their ribbons, with the collectibility ribbons being identified with a "C". Collectibility and Breed will each have their own champions and reserves as well. There will be at least 8 show rings set up- three for performance, four for halter, one for China. I plan to have one class being judged while the next is being set up. We will allow plenty of time for you to set up, but you will need to be *paying attention* to what is being called!
NEW! Performance classes will be called with a ten minute time limute from first call to last call. The judge will be adhering strictly to this time limit using a kitchen egg timer. When the timer dings, you WILL be expected to step away from the table- no further fiddling with tack will be allowed! Please plan accordingly, and respect the rules that will apply to *everyone*!
* Results/NAN tickets: Official show results will include first through sixth place in each class, and will be posted on the show website. First and second place models in each NAMHSA qualifying class will receive a ticket. Please fill out the information on the ticket as soon as possible. This ticket is your only proof that the model is eligible to enter NAN!
* Labeling: Please provide for each model a 3 x 5 card (please respect this by not using little slips of paper, note cards cut in half, or other odd sized paper) for EACH model and EACH class- for example, if your Big Ben is entered in OFP halter and two different performance classes, then you would need to make three cards for Big Ben- one for each class. Cards should have the Breed and Gender of the horse on one side, and the horse's name and owner's name on the other. and Judges will be turning in the cards from the winners of each class - please help us keep things running smoothly and on time by having your cards ready to go, legible and complete! ALL CLASSES should be entered with the cards showing the BREED AND GENDER of the horse, NOT the owner's name and the horse's name! You may also keep a tag on your horse to help you identify it as yours. I do recommend you have some way to identify a model as your own- particularly in the large OFP classes where chances are high that there will be many of the same model on the table. Models called back for championship classes will NOT BE REQUIRED to have a new card. Cards will be requested for the Champion and Reserve Champion at the time that they are pinned.
*Judging Criteria : We will have both a NAN rule book and a USA Equestrian (formerly AHSA) rulebook on site for judges and entrants use.
Judging criteria will follow the NAN rulebook as follows:
*Halter-Breed : 1. Correctness of ABC's- that is, anatomy, biomechanics and conformation 2. Type and conformation that represents current breed standards.(or historic standards if noted on entry) 3. Over-all appearance, finish, condition, and workmanship. 4. Judge's impression (documentation can affect this!)
Please note: halter classes will be judged to current breed standards unless you include a reasonably sized card documenting the type of horse you are presenting (example: Foundation appy gelding circa 1940). Documentation is always encouraged, particularly for less common breeds or colors.
*Halter- Collectibility: 1. Rarity 2. Desirability 3. Condition 4. Judge's impression (documentation can affect this!)
*Performance: 1. Correctness of ABC's- that is, anatomy, biomechanics and conformation 2. Ability of model to perform accurately and safely the activity presented. 3. Suitability and fit of tack. 4. Accuracy and presentation of entry, including documentation.
Please note: Performance classes will be judged based on USA Equestrian (formerly AHSA) rules, appropriate show association rules or appropriate breed association rules, whichever the judge thinks is most appropriate, unless documentation is presented stating otherwise. It is highly recommended that documentation be included on all performance entries, and that the entrant never assume the judge will know what your intentions are. Western and English Pleasure classes are open to ALL breeds and each entry will be judged based on that entries' breed standards.
*Restrictions:
Halter: A halter entry may include a halter but no other props. The halter must be to breed standards and properly fit, or you may risk being penalized. Bases are allowed. A Huck (Or any other model that is issued with a base) may have an aftermarket base.
Performance: There are no restrictions as to props allowed in performance classes other than space. Your entry may not take up more than 30" by 24" unless their is room on the table once all entrants are presented. Elaborate scenes will not necessarily help your entry, and caution must be taken not to hurt your entry by having props that are presented incorrectly. Please enter oasis scenes in the diorama classes! The diorama classes are NAN qualifying! Arabian costume should present what you would see in a similar class at a live show and performing the gaits allowed in these classes, unless documentation is provided showing your entry to be a native costume entry!
* Collectors/Theme Classes: These will be NON-NAMHSA qualifiers held for fun during each day. Please label and describe by whom and when manufactured, if known, and any unique characteristics of each piece. No props but accessories and table covers are OK. Each animal or figure that stands or lies alone counts as one piece. Example - a 3 horse family in original box counts as 3, the box is an accessory, as are original lamps, saddles, hats, guns & riders would be to a horse figure. Each shower may enter one group (entry) per class unless otherwise specified. All Theme/Collectors classes to be set up during lunch on the judging tables.
